Ringsend Dojo. 12 March 2025

Today, we opened the season of open-air bukiwaza practice at Ringsend Park! We warmed up with:  Shiboru Undo  Suburi 1, 2, & 3 Then we practised Ken Awase from Inagaki Sensei’s set as a preparation for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Back in the dojo, our regular class focused on refining Shihonage techniques: Tai no Henko & Tai no Henko Ki no Nagare Morotedori Kokyuho Suwariwaza Shomen Uchi Ikkyo Omote Hanmi Handachi Katatedori Shihonage Katatedori Shihonage Zagi Kokyuho A great day of practice—indoors and out! ✨  Join Us! Today, a few of our kids arrived in their keikogi for the very first time! We kicked things off by learning how to tie their belts correctly—an essential step on their Aikido journey. After a warm-up with stretching and core-strength exercises, we worked on front and back rolls from a standing position, building confidence and agility. The techniques we practised included: Tai no Henko Tai no Henko Ki no Nagare Morotedori Kokyuho Kosadori Kotegaeshi Zagi Kokyuho In the adult class, we welcomed a visitor who practised Aikido years ago but now trains in BJJ. It was great to share the mat with someone bringing different skills and perspectives—a reminder that Aikido is for all walks of life! Balbriggan Dojo. Women in Sports Week. 8 March 2025

Today, we wrapped up our Women in Sports Week with an inspiring session at Balbriggan Dojo. We had the pleasure of welcoming determined and open-minded women who joined us to explore the foundations of Aiki-ken. The class focused on essential sword work, building precision and flow through these movements: Ken no Kamae Migi & Hidari Shiboru Undo Migi & Hidari Suburi 1 Suburi 2 Suburi 3 Suburi 4 Suburi 5 Suburi 6 Suburi 7 Zengogiri Shihogiri Migi & Hidari. Each new participant received a special gift, thanks to the generous support of Fingal County Sports Office . Today, we held the second session of our Women in Sports Week series at Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre—another inspiring day on the mats! We were delighted to welcome more bold and curious women eager to experience the graceful power of Aikido.
