Balbriggan Dojo. 3 October 2026

Today we had planned to do an Aiki-jo class at Balbriggan Dojo. However, many of our members were attending the seminar with Quaranta sensei, organised by Aikikai Ireland in Athboy, so only beginners were present on the mats.

Instead of the planned advanced Jo practice, we went back to the very basics of Aiki-ken. Learning the sword is an important part of developing correct body posture and learning to initiate movement from the hips.

We covered:

๐Ÿ”น Ken no Kamae
๐Ÿ”น Shiboru Undo
๐Ÿ”น Shiboru Undo Irimi
๐Ÿ”น Shiboru Undo Tanren
๐Ÿ”น Ichi no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น Ni no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น San no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น Yon no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น Go no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น Roku no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น Shichi no Suburi
๐Ÿ”น Zengogiri
๐Ÿ”น Shihogiri
๐Ÿ”น Happogiri

Even when the planned programme changes, there is always something valuable to return to. The basics are where we build the foundation for everything that follows.
