Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming two visitors to the mats at Ringsend Dojo. One was an experienced aikidoka from Turkey, with 27 years of practice, who runs his own dojo in Istanbul. It was a great opportunity to share training with someone of such depth and experience. We also welcomed a newcomer to Aikido, an active martial artist with a background in boxing and kickboxing, and previous experience in kendo and judo. Today, we covered the following techniques: Tai no Henko Tai no Henko Ki no Nagare Morotedori Kokyuho Katatedori Ikkyo Omote Katatedori Kaitenage Uchi Mawari Katatedori Kaitenage Soto Mawari In our dojo tradition, visiting black belts are invited to teach a technique of their choice at the end of class. Believe Balbriggan Expo 2026. 11 April 2026

Today we took part in the BELIEVE Balbriggan Community Expo , a fantastic event that brought together over 70 local community organisations, businesses, sports clubs and public services. We hosted a booth with information about our club and Aikido, and were delighted with the level of public engagement throughout the day. Many people recognised us from our demonstrations at the Balbriggan St. Patrick’s Day Parade and even from the Balbriggan Beach Festival 2024 , which made the conversations even more meaningful. From 15:15 to 16:15, we led an open workshop in the upstairs dance studio. The turnout exceeded all expectations, the mats quickly filled up, and we had to split the group to ensure everyone could practise falling techniques safely without overcrowding. Participants were genuinely surprised by how Aikido works, as they explored the principles of body coordination and movement from the centre. We began today’s practice in Ringsend Park, where we worked through 31 no Jo Kata and started learning 31 no Jo Awase (movements 1–3). Then we continued our regular taijutsu class at Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre.
