Today we began practising Aiki-ken in Ringsend Park. We learned different ways of using the sword (Ken So Hou):

  • Ken Sou Hou 1: Tsuki with sword deflection
  • Ken Sou Hou 2: Go no awase with tsuki
  • Ken Sou Hou 3: Strike from gedan kamae with tsuki
  • Ken Sou Hou 4: Hit the sword and strike to the head
  • Ken Sou Hou 5: Blend with the attack and strike to the head 
  • Ken Sou Hou 6: Blend and undercut to the chest 
  • Ken Sou Hou 7: Hit the sword from the left and strike 
  • Ken Sou Hou 8: Drop the sword and cut the wrist 
  • Ken Sou Hou 9: Double tsuki 
  • Ken Sou Hou 10: Interceptive tsuki with yokomen
  • Ken Sou Hou 11: Interceptive tsuki, shallow entrance with transition behind the head
At the main class in Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre, we explored a few variations of Kokyunage techniques:
  • Tai no Henko 
  • Tai no Henko Ki no Nagare
  • Morotedori Kokyuho
  • Morotedori Kokyunage (360-degree turn)
  • Katatedori Kokyuho
  • Katatedori Kokyunage (iriminag-like finish)
  • Katatedori Kokyunage (leg cut)
  • Katatedori Kokyunage (up)
  • Katatedori Kokyunage (under elbow)
  • Katatedori Koshinage (under elbow, no head insertion)
  • Katatedori Kokyunage (spin-in iriminage)
  • Yokomen Uchi Kokyunage (spin-in iriminage)
  • Shomen Uchi Kokyunage (on-line one-hand iriminage)
  • Ushiro Eridori Kokyunage (outward atemi - Agonage)
  • Ushiro Eridori Kotegaeshi (inward atemi)
  • Zagi Kokyuho Ki no Nagare
