 🍀 Takemusu Aikido Society at the Balbriggan St. Patrick’s Day Parade 🍀

Today, we were happy to join the Balbriggan St. Patrick’s Day Parade again, along with many other local clubs and community groups, celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day in a fantastic atmosphere.

As we walked through the streets, our members demonstrated jo suburi, sharing the spirit of traditional Aikido weapons practice with the crowd. A. At each stop along the route, we performed 13 no Jo Awase, so spectators could see the precision, timing, and blending that are central to Aikido.

When we reached the stage, the MC remembered our group from last year. He recalled our past demonstration and asked if we had something to show again. Of course, we did.

Thank you to everyone who cheered us on along the route. It was wonderful to be part of such a lively celebration in Balbriggan.

If you would like to try Aikido yourself, we practise every Saturday at the Balbriggan Clubs Community Centre, and new members are always welcome.

Today marked the first practice of the year at Balbriggan Dojo, setting the tone for an exciting year ahead in Aikido training. The session focused on core principles and techniques, blending fundamental movements with advanced applications. This combination provided an enriching experience for practitioners of all levels. ✨ Tonight was our first class since Raman returned from two intense weeks of training as uchideshi in Iwama, Japan—the birthplace of Aikido. We focused on the katadori (shoulder grab) attack, working through fundamental principles refined under Inagaki Sensei’s guidance. The energy on the mats was focused and sharp as we explored: 🔹 Tai no Henko 🔹 Tai no Henko Ki no Nagare 🔹 Morotedori Kokyuho 🔹 Katadori Yonkyo Omote 🔹 Katadori Koshinage with Sankyo 🔹 Katadori Koshinage Shihonage (with & without head insertion) 🔹 Zagi Kokyuho There’s something special about returning to the basics with new depth.
